What is Reiki?
Did you know that Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation, was created over a hundred years ago by a Buddhist named Mikao Usui? This healing therapy is based on the belief that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and determines our well-being. When our "life force energy" is low, we are more likely to feel stressed or become ill, whereas when it is high, we are happier and healthier.
Reiki treats the whole person, including the body, emotions, mind, and spirit, and creates beneficial effects such as relaxation, peace, security, and well-being. Although spiritual in nature, Reiki is not a religion and has no dogma. It does not require any specific beliefs to learn and use Reiki, and it works regardless of whether you believe in it or not.
While Reiki does not directly cure illnesses, it is an effective way to manage symptoms and improve general well-being.
A Reiki Session Will Involve
- You will be asked to lie on a massage table.
- Soft, relaxing reiki healing music will be playing in the background.
- The practitioner will place their hands on or just above your body in sequences of positions.
- A reiki session does not involve any form of physical manipulation.
- You do not need to remove any clothing and no private parts of your body are touched.
- During a session, you may feel warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or a rumbling tummy, or you may feel absolutely nothing.
- You may even be so relaxed that you fall asleep.
- A complete reiki session can last from 60 to 90 minutes.
